14th century house

Touch the walls and hear what they have to say.

Welcome to Hucksteps. Our 14th century, medieval, slopey, wonky-windowed, crooked-y house. Once a tavern for incoming mariners, 7oo years on, Hucksteps is still offering family and friends a warm welcome. We’re centrally located in the Citadel of Rye. Sitting within cobbled streets, period architecture, literary associations, stunning coastline and vibrant culture. Come and stay. History is right on the doorstep at Hucksteps.

“We had a perfect stay in this unbelievably historic house. The kids were thrilled to be staying somewhere so old and atmospheric and we loved the fact it was old and wonky floored but totally modern too. If you’re visiting Rye I doubt there is a better base.”

“This place is magical. Steeped in history, every beam in the house tells a story. I absolutely loved the open vaulted ceilings upstairs. The fireplace is beautiful and this would be magical in winter.”

“It is hard to convey how beautiful Hucksteps House is. The house itself is full of history and couldn't be located in a more idyllic or central setting.”

“Probably the best AirBnB I've ever stayed in! Just the absolutely most unique place - beautiful interior, amazing location, and more little helpful touches than I could list.”

“This is THE place to stay in Rye. Listed 14th C building oozing with history and charm, but all the mod cons.”

“If you search online for images of Church Square in Rye this wonderful property is central to all the top hits. That's how iconic it is.”

“This is without a doubt the most historical and prettiest place we have stayed in the UK.”

We can’t wait to welcome you.
